Meet the Enterprises- Ace Coffee Bar

Ace Coffee Bar is a youth development project in Minneapolis, MN. This specific enterprise is a venture of Ace in the City, a neighborhood development organization that has been engaged in their community for over a decade. Some of the statistics that went into the formation of this initiative are startling. A quarter of students in the city cannot identify a caring adult in their lives. There is an 18% difference in the graduation rates of white and students of color. The city itself has one of the highest economic disparities between those groups as well.

Enter the vision of Ace Coffee Bar. They aim to create meaningful life and skill development internship opportunities for students in their neighborhood that provide employment through the summer months. Additionally, the Coffee Bar, a mobile event based coffee truck, can be utilized throughout the year for fundraisers and other outside events to allow students year round engagement opportunities. They have also started to sell roasted coffee as an expansion of this vision which augments their economic engine.

This project provides students pathways to engage in cross-cultural opportunities and leadership development pathways that will, over time, seek to narrow the gaps articulated above. Their goal is to see a 90% graduation rate in students that engage the project, 100% of those students being able to name a caring adult mentor in their life as well. These are high but worthy goals! Check out more of the vision at https://acecoffee.aceinthecity.org
